To most casual moviegoers, “old movies” are in black-and-white. However, before The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind, filmmakers had been experimenting with film colorization for decades. The evolution of color in film has a rich, complicated history. Learn about the development of color processes in film, from toning and hand-painting to digital color grading.
