May Topic/Speaker: Perennial Gardening, Carol Brodbeck
Perennial Gardening really pays off by what the gardener does AFTER initial planting to maintain them so they prosper. In this session, we shall concentrate on techniques of "tough love" watering to encourage growth of deep roots, fertilizing, mulching to retain soil moisture and reduce weed germination, staking and supporting to stand proudly, pruning (deadheading, dead-leafing to encourage blooming and looking their best), and dividing.
Carol Brodbeck is a degreed biologist, certified Advanced Master Gardener, National Garden Clubs, Inc. Five-Star (Master Gardening, Environmental, and Landscape Design Consultant and Master Flower Show Judge) and part-time faculty of Washtenaw Community College. From a child, she always asked, "Why?" or "How?" and this continues to this day. She loves learning and sharing with others AND leaning from others.
